Recently Ukraine has accused its neighbor, Russia of declaring war. Russian generals led troops to the Crimean Peninsula in Ukraine and demanded that the Ukrainian troops surrender and hand over their weapons. By late sunday the Russians had complete control of the Crimean Peninsula. “This is a red alert. This is not a threat. This is actually a declaration of war to my country,” Ukrainian interim Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said. Secretary of State John Kerry said that if Russia does not with withdrawal its forces several powerful countries will be economically affected.
“What Russia is doing now in Ukraine violates the principles of the U.N. charter,” NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen told reporters. This is significant to what we are now learning because if Russia is violating international laws it is the United States’ and other countries responsibilities to intervene and make things better. He also told Russia to send its troops back to Russia to honor its international obligations to the United Nations.
